New values for 2026
Scotland County's countywide revaluation took effect January 1, 2026, and the next one is listed for 2034. Local reporting described large increases, and the county did not publish an average change. Because the values will stay fixed for years, the 2026 figure is the number owners will be paying on for a long time.
For a retiree on a fixed income or heirs paying on a house nobody lives in, that is often what forces a decision. A sale does not have to wait until taxes are current. Delinquent taxes are paid from the closing proceeds.
Mill housing in Laurinburg and East Laurinburg
The county's first cotton mill opened in 1899, and East Laurinburg's mill workers lived in company housing. Textile manufacturing declined sharply after 2000, and many of the houses built for it are now rentals or inherited by family members who live elsewhere.
Mill-era houses are small frame buildings with crawlspaces, original wiring, and plumbing that has been patched for decades. We buy them in that condition, occupied or empty.
Florence and the low ground
Hurricane Florence hit Scotland County hard in September 2018, with flooding in Laurinburg. The Lumber River forms the county's eastern edge, and low ground along it and along the creeks that feed it is where insurance questions come up.
A house in a mapped flood zone needs flood insurance for a federally backed mortgage, and a prior claim makes that harder. We buy houses that took water, whether they were repaired, gutted, or left as they were.
